The Girls - Caleta and Diana - October 2011 B

Now we have stripped off some of the paint we can see the problems we have to deal with.

Start with the easy one - Port side of Caleta with some paint removed.

Do we just refill the joins with seam compound and repaint?  Should we get some paint/primer on the bare wood before the winter or is it ok to leave it like this until spring time?

This is under the stern of Diana looking forward.  This split is just above the rudder which you can see in the picture.

The gap is a max of 3/8 inch.  All appears to be where one board meets the centre plank.

Will we need to replace this board or is there another way to tackle this?

Caleta - Stem damage.

There were various suggestions as to what caused the scarf to break (which was the only visible sign until we took the paint off).

On questioning former owners and crew it turns out she was slammed hard into a concrete pier.   Ooooops!

The stem appears to be completely broken though at deck level and is only held on by the stem fitting.

I assume the planks are attached to a rebate in the stem fitting.  So how do we approach this repair?
